March 2011 Newsletter

It's spring field trip time!   Join us on Wednesday March 16th in Erie.
We'll start the day at the Erie Art Museum... meet @ 9:45 am as we will start our tour at
10 am sharp!  The Erie Art Museum has been recently expanded and has lots of exciting things to look at.  We will start with a tour of the museum and then the kids will get to  create an art project called a thaluthope.... part of the tour and the project will show us art as magic... how artists use their art to fool your eyes. It sounds very cool!
Our time at the Art Museum will run from 10 - 12 and cost $5 per child ( as long as there are at least 20). There is no charge for parents unless you want to participate and make a project. Parents are welcome to observe, walk around the museum or enjoy their cafe.
When we are done at the Erie Art Museum we'll head for the Watson- Curtze Mansion on 6th St. ( about 5 minutes away).  There we will be able to eat lunch  together ( pack your own or stop on the way over and pick something up), followed by a tour of the Mansion and a planetarium show.   The cost for this part of the day is $3.50 per student and $4.50 per adult - which is a savings over the online advertised price of $10.00.
RSVP to Robyn Samuelson jrsam91@verizon.net or 757-8016 by Thursday March 10th.

 Fieldtrip
Date: April 15th
Time: 10 am - 2pm for newbies, but if you've done this before, then show up anytime between there to work on your piece.
Place: Deb Penley's home: 15 School St., Sugar Grove (right next to the elementary school, facing the school, it's the house on the left with a front porch)
Bring: bag lunch or food to share
Cost: $3 for making a piece, $5 to paint it with the glazes or $5 to make a larger item (larger than a mug) and $7 if using glazes.
RSVP by APRIL 8th: Debbie at 489-7832 or penley75@verizon.net

Note from Deb:   This time we'll try to do the painting on the same day, I think, rather than trying to do two days. That way we can fire and be done for pick up in time for Mother's Day, too!
For those who were here last time, they could just dive right into the clay, I'll probably have a separate table for the "newbies" to go over the basics again.
We MIGHT have a potter's wheel to play around on - but it's not guarenteed, yet.

Victorian doll workshop at the

Warren County Historical Society

A distinctive craft experience, A Victorian Workshop-Creating Charming Clothespin Dolls, is offered by antique doll fancier Kate Reed through the Warren County Historical Society. From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 12, attendees will discover how to make this small though delightful Victorian-era doll that mothers often made for their children. Most everyone in the 19th Century had scraps of fabric left over from making clothing, and clothespins were common household items. In those days when toys were a luxury, children were delighted to have a doll to play with.
All ages are welcome! The workshop will take place at the Warren County Historical Society located at 210 Fourth Avenue, Warren. Cost includes all craft supplies as well as muffins and juice. Pre-registration is required as space is limited, so stop by the Warren County Historical Society soon to sign up. The society is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Just a heads up... Spring is on the horizon and a few field trips are being planned.  Details to follow, so keep your eyes on the Newsletter for any updates!
