There are plenty of local summer activities to keep our children engaged from ball games, museums and zoos to berry picking, fairs and festivals.  Below is a short list of a few events for all ages that might interest you.   Let me know if you would like to add anything or have any questions.

Youngsville, Warren and Sugar Grove all have a reading program going on again this summer.  It's not too late to sign up!

Lowe's Build and Grow Workshops

These traditionally run every other Saturday morning.  They have had an occasional Thursday evening workshop, so keep an eye on their website for sign ups.  You must register online to participate and space is limited.

Warren Alliance Church Movie Night
Free outdoor family movie night will be Disney's 'Zootopia', Friday July 15 at 8:45 pm.  The movie will begin at sunset.  There will be free popcorn and prizes.  The purpose of the family movie night is to provide a free evening of entertainment to families in our community.  Films will be chosen that have a high family rating.
Bring your friends!

Your history and non-history loving kids will love this WWII re-enactment!  Come early and you can explore their barracks, shop and watch history come alive.

Warren YMCA offers a Homeschool Swim Class on Fridays mornings for grades 1 through 8. Each five week session costs $15 for members and $45 for non members.  Call the Y to sign up: 726-0110

Also, the Homeschoolers in Corry meet at the Corry YMCA for a free swim.   Join the Corry Homeschoolers Facebook page to be in contact with them about those times and dates.  It is just $2 per visit.



Information on upcoming sports sign ups:

Spring Indoor Mini Soccer @ Warren YMCA
           Boys & Girls ages 4-7 
          $25 for members, $35 for non members
          Register at the YMCA until Feb. 27th
          Practices will be held on a week night, to be determined by the coach.  All children will receive a t-shirt and shin guards are mandatory.  Games begin April 9th and run for 5 weeks.

2016 Fall Soccer
         Boys & Girls ages 4-14
         $30 for members ($60 family max)
         $35 for non members ($70 family max)
         Registration begins Feb. 27th until June 4th @YMCA.           Practices will begin the 2nd week of August at the coach's discretion.    Games begin Aug. 27th until Oct. 8th ... 6 games total  Cleats are recommended & shinguards are mandatory.

2016 Spring Baseball/Softball
          Boys & Girls ages 5 to 16
          Boys & Girls T ball ages 5-6  
                    $40 per child (co-ed)
          Boys or Girls Training (coach pitch)

 Good job to all of our Homeschooling Spelling Bee participants!   Jessy, Alex, Jake, Katie and Natalie did a wonderful job and enjoyed a fun pizza lunch afterwards.
Congratulations to Alex for 1st place and Katie for 2nd place.  Katie will be going on to the county spelling bee to represent the Warren County Homeschoolers.

Jamestown Audubon Snowflake Festival
Saturday, February 6th    10 am - 4 pm
Children 2 and under free, ages 2-16 $2 and ages 16 and up $6

Snowshoe demos, outdoor cooking and camping demos, $5 to build a bird next box and suet feeder, Kid's crafts, maple tapping, basket making, butter making, eagle care, naturalist led hiking tours, cross country ski demos, ice bowling and more.   Check the website for full details:

Annual Homeschool Valentine's Skating Party
- Admission free (includes skate rental and a drink)
We had enough overage from the last two years that we can completely cover the cost of this year's party!
- $2 to rent inline skates
- Bring a bag or box for your Valentines (decorated bags and boxes are fun!)
- Bring signed Valentines to hand out
- Bring a snack to share

Taking Science Outdoors!
Take part in the worldwide Great Backyard Bird Count from February 12 through 15th.  Tally the number and types of birds you see and report it online.

Warren Public Library has once again invited the Warren County Homeschoolers to participate in March’s Youth Art Show, for 1st through 12th  grade students.  
The details are as follows:

•  Set-up is Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27.  Bring to the gallery on the 3rd floor either of these days.  Make sure your art piece is labeled with student name, grade and medium utilized.
     •  One piece per student
•   The show will be open to the public for viewing February 29 – March 29.
•   Take down is Weds/Thurs March 30/31.
•   Open House is Tuesday, March 8, 5:00-7:00.  Please come with your child and they will be presented with their participation certificate at that time.

Art can be in any form; paintings, sketches, chalk, clay, ceramics, jewelry making, photography etc…

RSVP to the children’s librarian Susan Slater at 723-4650 or sslater@warrenlibrary.org and let her know your child’s name and if they would like a participation certificate.

A Pre-K and Kindergarten art show will be in April.  I will send out information on that soon.
