Spelling Bee News from Nan Chapman:
We recently held our Homeschooler's spelling bee.
  also participated and did well.

Congratulations to Aubrey, who will be going on at the county bee to be held at Warren Area Elementary Center on Feb 12th at 9:00 am.
If you would like to prepare for next year's bee, go to http://www.spellingbee.com/  for lists to study.  But don't be frightened by the lists.  We don't get that hard here or at the county bee.

HOMESCHOOL SCIENCE DAY

Wednesday Feb 26th   9am to 3pm
Location: Wiltsie Community Church, on Swede Hill in Russell.  From Rt 62 (just before the NY state line) turn left onto Swede Hill Rd and you will see the church ahead of you on the right.

Bring a dish to share.

Homeschool Science will be a fun, educational day for all ages!!
Speakers and Hands On:  Heres what to expect....   We have speakers lined up from the Allegheny National Forest , the Warren Co. Conservation District, the PA Game Commission. We'll also have a station on Food Science and hopefully one more.... still waiting to hear back if they can come. It's a well rounded variety of science type topics, some of the best speakers in the area all in the same place, same day!  The kids will be divided into age groups, so each speaker will present their program several times but in an age appropriate way... those high schoolers can expect something much more detailed than our kindergarteners!  The groups will rotate through the stations with a 45 minute 'class' at each one. We will break for a pot luck lunch at noon, and then finish up about 3 ish.
Homeschool Moms Lounge:  something alittle different is being planned for you! You will all take turns supervising the stations but the rest of the time you'll be enjoying the
Homeschool Moms Lounge with some special things just for you!   ( no I'm not telling but you will enjoy it! )

There will be no cost for this fun day!
Each family should bring a dish for lunch and their own table service -- we will be feeding our speakers as well. There is plenty of room to plug in crock pots if needed. Drinks will be provided.
Sign up now...   please RSVP to Robyn Samuelson or beets65@verizon.net
by Wed February 19th. Please let me know how many will be attending and the grades of each child,  ( not ages, just grades)  and the best way to contact you in event we have a change due to weather.
Any questions? Let me know. Robyn

Homeschoolers have been invited again to participate in the
Warren County Student Art Exhibit
for the month of March!

The details:

• For students Grade 1 through 12
• Art can be in any form … paintings, sketches, clay, ceramics, jewelry making, photography, etc…
• Bring pieces to the Warren Library on Feb 28th or March 1st, from 10am - 5pm.  Parents will put up their own art work.  There should be pins out on those two dates to hang your art work.
If it is 3-dimensional, you can place your piece on one of the surfaces available in the room.
•  One piece per student
•  You will need to fill out the slip (print it small enough) and attach to the artwork or set near the piece.
•  If you would like an Art Certificate from the Library, you will need to leave your child's full name with Susan Slater in the Children's Dept.
• The Art Exhibit will be open for public viewing from March 3 - 27 and will be taken down March 28/29.  You are required to pick up your child's art at that time.
• The Art Exhibit Open House is March 6th from 5 to 7pm.  Please come with your child and they will be  presented with their participation certificate at that time.      If you are attending the open house, it would be nice if you could bring a snack or dessert to share, such as brownies or cookies.
• RSVP to me, Julie, if your child is going to participate.  I need to compile a list of participants to provide the library with.

Information will be forthcoming regarding a Pre-K/Kindergarten Art Show in April and an All County High School Art Show in May.

Use this form to attach to the bottom of your artwork or to set next to it.

Thursday, April 17th @ 12:30 - Field Trip to Audubon for all ages

The 2014 GBBC will take place Friday, February 14, through Monday, February 17. Please join us for the 17th annual count!
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are.
GBBC checklists can be accepted from anywhere in the world!

Everyone is welcome--from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.
Participants tally the number of individual birds of each species they see during their count period. They enter these numbers on the GBBC website.
New participants must set up a free GBBC account to submit their checklists or use login information from an existing account for any other Cornell Lab citizen-science project. You’ll only need to do this once to participate in all future GBBC events. Click "Submit Your Bird Checklist" at the top of this page or see How to Participate for more details.
