Apparently, the prothonotary office in the courthouse is no longer notarizing them. Per Virginia, As of this time last year, Crystal at Dick's Gas Station in Youngsville and Rick Dies at the car dealership next to Richard's Restaurant on Rt 6 were both doing school affidavits. District Magistrate Laura Bauer will notarize homeschooling affidavits for free. Her office is at 1585 Market Street Extension, just across from Big Joe's. Her hours are 8:30 to Noon and 1 to 4:30 PM, Monday thru Friday. You can call ahead at 723-6750, to be sure she's not busy hearing a case in her court, which is in the same building.
Pizza Hut's Book It Program

They send you materials to help you keep track of your child's reading. Set a goal and when they meet that goal, they earn a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut each month until April I believe it is. You have the coupons in your possession, so you reward them each month. Sign up is now until September or while supplies last.
This FREE event for children is planned for Saturday, Aug 20th, at Farnsworth Fish Hatchery.
Breakfast is provided by McDonald's at 8am sharp, followed by a Safety Lesson and then the fishing can begin!
The stream is stocked that morning and the brand new fishing equipment is given out to each child aged 2 to 15 that has registered. When the fishing is over, the children get to take their new, free equipment home with them!

The Eisenhower Soccer Boosters will be sponsoring a FREE youth soccer camp.
Instruction will be provided by EHS coaches Kevin Wiegel (Girls' Coach) and Mike Decker (Boys' Coach) along with participation from current EHS players.
The program will include instruction in a fun, interactive way. No equipment is necessary but shin guards are recommended.

5) May 29: PKP Rimrock Trail Memorial Day Bash Location: Kinzua Beach
Time: Noon - 6pm
The initial success of the locally founded Pennsylvania Kinzua Pathways is the reason they are throwing a party on Sunday, May 29 at the Kinzua Beach parking lot. But it's not your usual Memorial Day cookout --although there will be plenty of food. The Rimrock Bash will feature lots of family activities at little or no cost to showcase the area's outstanding outdoor attractions.
The Rimrock Trail for the first time connects Kinzua Beach with one of the area's best attended sites, an overlook of Kinzua Lake unsurpassed in the region. A rudimentary trail was completed last fall and there are plans to add more amenities as time goes by. Success in this linking trail augurs well for proposed trails to link Kinzua Beach with Kinzua Marina and even the Kinzua Dam visitor's center with the marina and beach.
It's a big deal. That's why Kinzua Pathways and the local Council on Tourism and a variety of local businesses have teamed up for the Rimrock Bash.
Food, music and vendors are lining up and we are excited to have Kinzua Cachers offering a Geocaching 101 Workshop. Join this class so you can join the GeoMeet with at least ten caches in the area; The Conservation District and Family Services have partnered with WCCBI and the Historical Society to hold the second leg of the Quadrathlon, a seasonal scavenger hunt style event with clues along the Rimrock Trail and in the Kinzua Beach area; Allegheny Outfitters will have canoes and kayaks available for a donation to PKP (thanks AO!) and will give a Beginners Backpacking Workshop; John Beard will give an Outdoor Cooking demo and tasting while giving an entertaining performance for kids of ALL ages! Plus, Volt Vision, an emerging lighting design company will offer an interactive installation that will be fun and educational too.
6)June 3-5 Allegheny Burger Festival and Gus Macker Basketball Tournament
The first annual Allegheny Burger Festical will feature veggie, turkey, the finest ground beef, BBQ, Bison, seafood and every topping you can dream up. There will also be other food vendors, craft and business vendors and entertainment.

11) June 18: Conewango Creek Water Trail Festival

Admission to the event is free to the public. “Our group has put a lot of time and effort into getting this designation for Conewango Creek and getting our brochures ready and printed. We thought it only fitting to want to celebrate that accomplishment,” said John Gallagher, CCWA Director, and Water Trail committee chairman.
“The Water Trail Festival will be a family day for fun and education,” stated Gallagher. “We will have a Trail Dedication ceremony and a chance for our elected officials to say a word or two. There will be educational displays, demonstrations, activities, food and craft vendors. We want to have something for everyone,” Gallagher added.

It is that time of the year for the WOODMOBILE! It will be on TUESDAY, MAY 10th at the fairgrounds. Be there by 8:40. This is a very worthwhile program put on by School-to-Work program and the Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group (AHUG). This is for all 3rd graders (and we can let 2nd and 4th graders who have never attended this event before if this year works out better - for example - you have a 4th and 2nd grader it is easier to go just once as opposed to taking each individually.) It would be better if you can get a baby sitter for younger siblings. Attached is the schedule.
Homeschoolers are scheduled to attend the morning session. Our group name is ASH. Just follow the station and time frame for the Ash group. The first station (after the introduction) is the woodmobile tour followed by the Penn's Woods presentation... You may drive to the 3rd driveway and pull in by the buildings to park. Plan to stay for the provided lunch - hamburgs/hot dogs at 11:30-12.

Warren Public Library 3rd Annual Teen Poetry Contest
Open to students in grades 6-12. Cash prizes will be awarded in two age categories: grades 6-8 and grades 9-12.
An entry form must accompany all poems.
Forms are available at the library.
Entries submitted must be original work and there is a limit of 3 poems per person.
The deadline for submissions is April 23rd, no later than 5pm. You can bring them in or mail them to:

The photos may be in black and white or color and may be 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10 in size.
Each photo must be matted but framing is optional.

On Friday June 10th, school children and their parents are invited to participate in hands-on experiences and beginner field trips at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History. These will provide an easy introduction and a less intimidating environment for helping young and old alike find the pleasures many have derived from an engagement with nature. A program about bluebirds and building boxes for them will take place.
Vendors and experts will be available to help with binoculars, advice on backyard bird feeding and other bird related interests . A live raptor exhibit and a bird-banding demonstration will enable all to get up close and personal with these creatures usually seen only in the distance.
